** National Reading Panel Reports Combination of Teaching Phonics, Word Sounds, Giving Feedback on Oral Reading Most Effective Way to Teach Reading
“…The panel found that the research conducted to date strongly supports the concept that explicitly and systematically teaching children to manipulate phonemes significantly improves children's reading and spelling abilities. The evidence for this is so clear cut that this method should be an important component of classroom reading instruction.
The panel also concluded that the research literature provides solid evidence that phonics instruction produces significant benefits for children from kindergarten through 6th grade and for children having difficulties learning to read. The greatest improvements in reading were seen from systematic phonics instruction…”

3. How does Ringbound Reading™ work?
- The curriculum teaches reading through recognition of letters, consonant blends, vowel sounds, digraphs, true sight words, common word parts, and other essential reading skills.
- It reinforces concepts taught with games, practice exercises, and reinforcement projects.
- 382 3x9 sturdy cards with colored borders, Core Cards and Game Cards categorized and linked by color for easy location of supplementary exercises that will strengthen new reading and spelling skills.
Prior to each lesson, selected cards are moved from the Yellow Ring to the Red Ring, the (Teaching Ring) where they are accumulated as concepts are taught and mastered. This makes it great for teaching, simple for review, and even makes it easy for your child to review on his or her own. The teacher’s manual is concise but thorough, giving step-by-step instructions. 4. Who developed this curriculum?
Judy Masrud is a pioneer in the homeschooling field from northwest Wisconsin, and has taught for over 21 years. Seeing children in private and public schools become frustrated with workbooks, trying to sit still, falling behind, and becoming discouraged, she saw the need for a new type of phonics curriculum. She put together all the essential and fun stuff necessary to teach reading effectively, creating Ringbound Reading™. Judy is author of SECOND CHANCE – A Tale of Two Puppies, and several other children’s stories. She lives with her husband, Kevin, and family in northwest Wisconsin. They have three grown children, Kevin, Angela, and Dänika, all of whom were homeschooled and have since moved out of the house, gone on to university, and established their own place in the world. The Masruds have two teenagers still living at home – Robert and Joseph. Also present are two dogs, two cats, and occasionally the grandpuppy.
5. What is the 'Set of 69 Replacement Picture Cards'?
Sixty-nine of the cards in the Complete Ringbound Reading Curriculum are picture cards, the only part of the curriculum that is consumable. Those 69 cards include the Alphabet Cards and other cards which contain pictures your student may want to color. Because there may be another child who will inherit the Ringbound Reading program, we have made additional sets of the 69 picture cards available to purchase, so you can restore your Complete Ringbound Reading Curriculum to use with another child.
